HARRISBURG, PA – May 28, 2026 – On Wednesday, Senator Malone joined Mount Joy Borough Manager Mark Pugliese, first responders, and Borough staff to announce a $47,000 grant he helped secure for the Borough to purchase new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). The funding will be used to update and standardize Mount Joy Borough’s AEDs across emergency services vehicles and the newly constructed municipal building.
“I make it a priority to work closely with all the municipalities in my district to help fill in funding gaps wherever I can,” said Senator Malone. “These AEDs are critical to have in public buildings and emergency vehicles because they can greatly increase the chance of survival in the event of cardiac arrest. I’m glad I could work with Mount Joy’s Borough Manager, Mark Pugliese, and his team to help secure a grant to purchase these life-saving devices.”
During a cardiac emergency, a person’s chances of survival drop by about 10% for every minute that CPR and an AED are not used. When individuals in cardiac arrest receive a shock from an AED within the first minute, 9 out of 10 people survive.
