Constituent Service Case Highlights

Travel Insurance Reimbursement – Mike F.

Mike F. reached out to our office after months of struggling to have his travel insurance honored. He purchased a policy in February for an upcoming trip and had to cancel after a hospitalization that left him unable to travel. When he filed a claim with the insurance company, the company denied receiving his documents, despite proof of registered mail, and ignored further correspondence.

Our office guided Mike through the Pennsylvania Insurance Department’s Bureau of Consumer Services complaint process, ensuring his case received proper review. Shortly after filing, Mike received his long-delayed reimbursement check. He later visited our office to thank the team, noting that what he had tried to resolve for six months was addressed quickly with their assistance.

If you have a similar issue that involves navigating state agencies or accessing resources, our office is here to help. Call or stop by during office hours for assistance (see hours and locations below).

PennDOT Messenger Service Refund – Holly T.

Our office assisted Holly T. of Mountville, a former notary and PennDOT messenger service owner, in securing a refund for her messenger service fees. She had paid renewal fees for her Messenger ID but never received the required materials from PennDOT. Unable to legally operate without the updated documentation, she ultimately closed her business.

Following an initial inquiry on Holly’s behalf, PennDOT advised our office that messenger renewal fees are not refundable under standard policy. Our office continued to pursue the matter, escalating the case through our caucus and PennDOT legislative affairs, providing additional documentation and context regarding the delayed issuance, postmark discrepancies, and resulting business impact. Following further review, PennDOT approved a full refund for the fees Holly paid.

Expedited Master’s Equivalency Letter Processing – Judson B.

Judson B., a local teacher, contacted our office for assistance obtaining his Letter of Master’s Equivalency from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). Although he had completed all necessary requirements, his application had been pending without a clear timeline, delaying a significant salary increase.

Our office was initially told the review would take approximately six weeks with no option to expedite. However, through continued outreach and advocacy, PDE expedited the process and approved Judson’s application, resulting in a pay increase for him and his family.
