HARRISBURG, PA – August 6, 2026 – On Monday, State Senator James Andrew Malone joined Hempfield School District leadership and staff to announce a $100,000 grant for the district to purchase seven hundred new desks for its seven elementary schools. The grant was awarded through discretionary funding to support the purchase of new furniture using one-time funds outside of Hempfield’s regular state allocation for school operations.
“In addition to supporting more funding for public education, I’m always looking for ways I can support improvements in our local schools,” said Senator Malone. “The leadership in Hempfield School District does an excellent job of managing their resources and striving to provide the best possible education for our students. I’m glad we could help them in purchasing these new desks to give kids a fresh start this year.”
“There is only so much revenue that comes in on a yearly basis for the budgets,” said Hempfield School District Superintendent Mike Bromirski. “When we’re able to obtain grants to help replace things like desks and chairs, it has a direct impact on our students, their learning, and the environment they’re in. We’re really grateful for the extra dollars here and thankful for all the support.”
Senator Malone has been a strong advocate for public schools in Senate District 36. He recently voted for a state budget that took another important step toward fulfilling the General Assembly’s obligation to fix Pennsylvania’s broken education funding system.
This year’s budget delivered a $58 million increase in Basic Education Funding, as well as $565 million to address school funding inequities across Pennsylvania. As a result, Hempfield School District will see a total state funding increase of $900,015 in the 2026-27 fiscal year.
