HARRISBURG, PA – July 1, 2025 − Today, Senator James Malone (D-36, Lancaster) issued the following statement in response to Republicans passing the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” in the US Senate:
“I’m disgusted that the Senate passed the so-called ‘Big Beautiful Bill,’ and I’m deeply disappointed that Senator Dave McCormick voted for it.
When I was a kid, my family—for a time—relied on food assistance programs like the ones Senate Republicans just voted to gut in order to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy.
This bill will hurt real people. It will hurt our neighbors. That saddens me deeply.
At a time when so many Americans are struggling, Republicans have abandoned Pennsylvanians by shifting $1 billion every year in food assistance costs onto us. This bill cuts and changes Medicaid so severely that over 300,000 of our neighbors could lose their health care and rural hospitals could be forced to close.
I urge everyone to call their Representatives and demand they stop this immoral legislation before it becomes law.”
