July 23, 2026 − Senator James Andrew Malone issues the following statement on Senate Bill 1400:
“In response to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling in Commonwealth v. Lee, I voted yes on Senate Bill 1400, which was the legislative solution to address sentencing for felony murder. I voted yes because I stand with our law enforcement, with our district attorneys, with victims, and for the safety of our community. Providing certainty and clarity for courts, victims, and inmates serving existing sentences is extremely important in these rare but serious cases.
Senate Bill 1400 would also address parole eligibility for individuals currently serving a life sentence for felony murder by allowing parole eligibility for inmates that have served at least 35 years or inmates at least 70 years old and have served at least 20 years.
